Time flies ..... and finally we've come to the end of 2008.
Tonnes of things has happened around us, good and bad whether we like it or not. God has been faithful and we're still alive and still able to observe the end of 2008.
We do not know what will happen in 2009, only God knows and He is in control. I pray that 2009 will be an exciting year.
For me personally this is a year of ups and downs. There are moments that are exciting, some are saddening, some are fun, some are serious, some are stupid and etc. No matter what it is, it will be a part of the learning process as we mature.
Early this year, I've posted this post. Let's review it, shall we?
- I want to love God more. FAILED
- I want to get into a relationship. FAILED
- I want to get 6 pack abs in 2008. FAILED
- Hehehehe I want to play in more gigs.... SUCCESS
- I want to get few guitars. SUCCESS
- I want to buy a house FAILED
- I want to buy a car FAILED
- I want to improve my music skills... FAILED
As you can see, most of it failed. *sigh* Probably some of it are too far fetched, perhaps should adjust it a bit.
However, here are some of the highlights that I manage to accomplish in 2008 :-
- Junk line-up completed
- DIY a jamming studio.
- Played in a few more gigs. (NTLP, Jrock Kingdom 4, Meet the Band, Groove In Motion, Mybloggercon, Intervarsity Song Writing Competition)
- Recorded a few tracks in a proper studio as a vocalist and guitarist.
- Appeared on TV.
- Bought a Musicman Axis, Damange Control pedals.
- Visited Redang
- Visited a Fish Spa
- Organised Jrock Kingdom IV.
Let's hope 2009 will be an exciting year.
Wishes everyone a Blessed Merry Christmas.
I'll be spending my Christmas time back in my beloved hometown. Will be travelling tonight.
Have fun !!
Keep yourself out of accidents okay....
Hybrid failed in the Spirit of Music audition.
I can only blame our unpreparedness to be the main cause.
We've only jammed 3 times :
1st Time :- (A week before audition)
Vocal was sick
Still looking for keyboardist
Drummer first time jamming with us
2nd Time :- (Day before audition)
Guitar not available
Keyboardist first time playing with us
3rd Time :- (Audition Day)
First time full band
Practised for 20 mins.
However, I'm pretty impressed that we manage to pull off quite decently L'arc'en'ciel's "Nexus 4" and GLAY's "Winter Again" with that amount of practice.
I can't help to laugh on the comment sheet that we received.

Subject: Comment Sheet of The Audition
We are sorry to inform you that ??? was not selected to perform for Spirits of Music 2009. Below is the comment sheet of the audition.
Don't give up! We hope to see you in our future event :)
Steady, good touch! Nice tone
Not so skillful
Sim Choong How
Tone very good, consistent
''feel' very good, not so powerful
Volume control a bit messy
Style of Music
Technical Ability (40%):
- All members are technically competent and secure with their parts.
-overall good performance. A bit messy. Not tight. Need more practice
Band Ensemble (40%):
- Satisfactory ensemble work.
- Communication, chemistry and energy is lacking
-Sometimes, band members are detached from each other
-Guitarists not fully locking with drummer and bassist
-All musicians are steady! Quite skillful! Good sound balance.
Stage Presentation (20%):
-only the rhythm guitarist (Kian mg) is displaying any physical interest in the music.
-Vocalist must extend more flair, passion and confidence.
- No presentation! No coordination!
Anyhow, I'll take this as a challenge. Thank you to those who encouraged us by coming to see us practise. We'll do better next time.
P/S : RM50 to play just 2 songs at a CRAPPY studio is DAMN HELL EXPENSIVE based on the fact that this is NOT a competition and "winners" is not guaranteed on receiving any prize out of this event.
!!! UPDATE !!!
Pics from Audition
After 4 weeks of DIY renovation, finally we manage to complete our own jamming room.
Thanks to those who helped us out :
Akira, Brett, Choong How, Gary, Kenneth
And special thanks to EJun for helping us out with the transportation although he's not a share holder of the project. Thank you so much. I owe you a meal. And Terry for the advise on PA.
And also those who left halfway but has inspired us go on with the project ... Phuah & Raymond.
Personally, I learned lots of stuff from this small project. Will share it next time.
Come come come ... take a look at the pics...
Tonight, Hybrid will mark their first jamming in our own studio after spending 4 weeks of DIY renovation.
Looking forward ... Will take lots of pictures tonight.... Hahahaha
I hereby declare I'm officially 26.
Sheali : 我妹妹说你很漂亮。。。不过要keep fit.
FXXX the weather!!! Rains everytime when I don't bring my raincoat along.
And bright sunny side when I take my raincoat along. DUH
Damn, I can't join RPM class today.
FXXX! Always rain at the wrong timing, causing traffic jam here and there.
My sister came down from Terengganu for a 3 weeks stay in KL. So on Saturday afternoon, Choong How, my sister and I went to Italianese, The Curve to have lunch. We ordered Spaghetti Meatball, Lasagna, Fettucini Carbonara. Big serving I'd say...
However, the food taste is lower than my expectation. I know of a small restaurant in Puchong called "Little Italy" who makes better Italian food. Anyhow, here's the pic :-
After the meal, we went to ToneZone studio. They are having a close down sale till end of this month. It's kinda sad that they have to close down. Anyhow, I manage to get myself a new toy from Tonezone. Taadaaaa ....
Speaking of Damage Control, I really need to do some damage control as here it's burning my wallet hahaha. Anyway, it's Pure Class A Dual Tube Preamp. This pedal can produce a very warm tube distortion. Ahhhh....... The tone is just ... *heavenly*.
After the "shopping" in Tonezone, my sister and I went to Subang Parade to meet up with Calvin and yayai and head off to Agefuku for japanese buffet in Agefuku. Will update in next post once I have the pics uploaded.
They cut my electricity although I paid my bills way one month back.....
In the end, I have to make a few phone calls and endure a fan-less night.
Sweating like hell although sleeping with just my underwear......
They better fix it today.....
The concert is jointly organised by Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) and Japan Foundation with cooperation with the Japan Embassy. This is my first time watching concert in MPO. The interior design and acoustic is great... (My seat has the best sound, of course.. expensive tickets).
The reason I went to this concert is because Hiroyuki Noritake is the drummer. He is T-Square's ex-drummer. As always, his playing is splendid. Mr Isao's guitar is great too... very expressive improvisation works. Eizaz, Toro and I went to No Black Tie after the MPO showcase to catch the band jamming. I brought along the latest T-Square DVD as well with the hope that Mr Noritake will sign it but I didn't manage to get it signed because Mr Noritake went back to hotel to rest instead of coming to No Black Tie. *sigh*. Managed to have some short talk with Mr Koh "Saxman" in Thai language. Hahaha.... A humble person. How I wish I could converse in Japanese so that I can talk to Mr Isao.
Cam whoring in LRT
Prior to the concert, I managed to drop by Isetan KLCC to get myself a brand new watch after I lost my Casio G-Shock. It's kinda saddening because the watch is a gift from my mom. I've been wearing it for 8 years already. Anyhow, here's the new watch that I manage to get from ODM.
Mr. Metallic. Nice heh?
David (ME) :
Last Saturday, got a call from Jacob for a lunch at Midvalley first before going to church for service. I was lazy and do not want to drive my bike to Midvalley, and so I decided to take the train instead.
The lunch was scheduled to be 12:30 and so I reached Bank Negara KTM Station at around 11:15am. A quick glance at the LCD panel and was relief that the train to Seremban is arriving in another 5 minutes... So was thinking of visiting Peoples and Philosophy Men if I reach Midvalley early.
5 minutes went by..... no sign of train .........
Another 15 minutes went by ..... train came ..... but on the other side of the track.
Another 10 minutes went by ..... train came ..... on the correct side of track ... different route (P.Klang) #$&#^
Another 5 minutes went by ..... opposite train came
Another 15 minutes ..... opposite train came again
Another 5 minutes ..... the train came .... different route (P.Klang) wtf.....
Another 5 minutes ..... opposite train came
Another 15 minutes ... P.Klang train came again..... (where the heck is the Seremban train?)
and finally the train arrived after around 10 mins or so.... but the train is jam packed with people.
Don't care lar... just squeeze..... I'm tall enough to get some good air in a stuffed train anyway.
Well.... frequent KTM users will be able tell similar experiences that I had. It's being more than 6 years since I first used KTM services to commute from places to places and I've NOT seen any service improvements. Their company motto - "Terus Maju" means "keeps on progressing", but somehow I don't see any point of their motto.
Got tagged by Chris. First time getting tagged btw.
Anyhow, here it goes....

Went for a recording session yesterday......Recording vocal for one of the upcoming nationalwide event. The recording session was quite smooth. Manage to settle my part within a few takes.
Here's a short video on what's happening yesterday.... More to come later...
Video courtesy of KhanKhai.
I hate this KL weather.....
Sunny at the wrong timing
Raining at the wrong hour
Feel kinda sad leaving hometown to come back to KL. I will definitely miss the air back in hometown.....
Well, this coming week will be a hectic week for me as I'm working in a new environment. It's not that I changed job, just that I'm supporting another company for now. Workload is kinda hectic because need to work off office hours. Hopefully this won't be for long.
Tonight will be playing guitar for Siang Xi in UM. I only practised with them once yesterday night. Hopefully I don't screw up that much tonight. Hahahah.....
Just wanna share a song that I liked when I was a kid and even now... I first listened to it when I was around 4 or 5 years old. That's the era where good musics buds. You can hardly find good musics these days.
My dad bought this cassette album and I kept on repeating this song by rewinding the tape again and again till it is spoilt. Hahaha.
This is a song sang by Alan Tam called "Lorelai". Impressive arrangement for that era.
I'm already on RAYA mood. SO there won't be much blog updates during this festive season. (Not that I regularly update the blog anyway). Anyhow, drive safe during the holidays.
The blog will resume after my holiday. (If and only if I have stuff to blog about ;-)
Went to Swee's BodyPump class yesterday at the Curve. It was my first Pump class after the injury.
All I can say that it's tough.... Arrrrgh... Lots of catch-up need to be done...
I'll be going back to Terengganu tomorrow till Oct 12. So I won't be in any gym class or jamming... I will certainly miss 'em dearly......
Was digging my older photos and would like to share some photos on some recording session that I had last time..... Nothing much special... Just some pics that's all.
P/S : As you can see, I was skinny last time. I'm happy that I look better now hehehe.
